When planning a funeral, it is often difficult to know where to start. As a result, it is important to choose a funeral director, also known as a Mortician, who is proficient in all mortician services. These can include everything from advising on funeral services that meet your budget, to dressing or applying make-up to the deceased, to arranging and directing the entire funeral service.
In order to become a mortician every state requires board licensing. Mortician schools typically consist of mortuary science degrees which may take two to four years to complete, followed by an apprenticeship and examination.
A good funeral director should be more than willing to provide their services in support of funeral services conducted in a church, a home, a funeral home, a grave side or almost anywhere. They do not work 9 to 5 schedules and are trained to deal with stressful situations.
