Have you heard about new "green" ways of being buried? Many people have become concerned over decreasing space in cemeteries available for our and future generations. So here is some food for thought, how about preparing for a natural burial? Not only does it cost alot less than a common burial, it is more effecient for the earth. No chemicals are used in the body, allowing natural decomposition. No expensive coffin is used, making it easier for the family to use their money elsewhere.
Many churches are accepting this type of funeral and burial, because it is nature-perfect. The body is simply wrapped in cloth, or placed in a pressed cardboard coffin, viewed almost immediately after death, (because no chemicals used for preservation), and burial is simply a hole dug in the earth. Families can choose to plant a tree above the body for memorial. Some families will go the extra step of having a GPS unit buried with the body so they can detect exactly where the body lies, in order to visit the grave and pay respects if there are no markers wished.
If you think about it, this is the way our ancestors were laid to rest, how did we become so involved with preserving our bodies after death? Originally it was hard for people to travel to see the body, using covered wagons, and think about the way they recieved mail. It could take them a week to arrive for a funeral. That is what made it necessary for embalming methods to preserve the body for viewing until family could arrive. Much unlike today. We communicate so easily, and can travel faster than days gone by. Why not return to the earth naturally, without all the fuss and expense. Simple.
