In 1898 William Bell Langford moved to Jonesboro. In 1899 Mr. Langford partnered with a Mr. Houghton to start a furniture business with an undertaking business on the side. Here they made caskets and boxes for burial.
On June 7, 1932 W. T. Emerson and Homer Burns created Emerson & Burns Funeral Home. The original funeral home was in a white framed house in downtown Jonesboro. In addition to the funeral business, an amubulance service was also started.
